Most men want to be Tough - to be strong enough
in mind and body to handle any situation.

Toughness is made of 3 components:

The reason most men fall short of this is because they
are plagued with self-doubt, and they worry about the
opinions of others.

In other words, they are directed by FEAR.

And fear is your enemy's greatest weapon against you.

It's also the greatest obstacle between you and anything
you want to achieve.

The truly Tough man is the one who is not directed by Fear.

The way to get rid of fear, permanently, is to train your
mind to give up your emotional attachment to the outcome.

What I mean by that is - when you were younger, maybe
in high school or college - did you ever notice that the guy
who has all the hot women seems as if he couldn't care less?

But the guy who is desperate couldn't get a date to save his life.

You could say the guy with all the hottest girlfriend has lots of
money, but in reality that is rarely the case.

Have you ever noticed that someone with money tends to make
more money?

But the guy who's broke tends to constantly be broke and
complaining?

The guy who is lacking in both situations is emotionally attached
to the outcome. He "needs it too badly."

Thus, he is sending out an energy that is actually pushing away
what he wants!

The one who has all the money, the hot chicks, etc, is putting
off a Primal energy that attracts rather than repels.

Does that make sense?

Don't Feel like Training?

Hi My Friend

Yesterday was just one of those days for me... I had planned to go training at 10 am as usual.

However, as is often the case, things just got in the way.

A real busy day helping friends with property stuff, mulling over decisions etc, running all over Town... no food all day and suddenly its now 5pm.

I have a meeting at 7.45 pm and thought... dagnabbit... that's training messed up for today.

Then I thought... stuff it... food or no food... time to train anyway.

So I packed my kit... and went boxing... I was too tired to do my normal one round so I had to split it into 12 x 3 minutes ... not a full session.. but at least I crammed as much into it as I could.

Boy, did that make me feel better...

That is the great thing about training hard and properly... how good it makes you feel.

Which brings me onto my next point... how you feel..

Many times I am asked about confidence etc.. so many of us Martial Artists are not confident in what we do... for various reasons.

I usually reply that I am 100% confident whilst also being 100% realistic ... no point in being stupid about it!

For me... that confidence comes from knowing that the thug / idiot / asshole etc on the street is no way training like I do.

There is no way this guy/s are doing hard bag / pad / sparring like me.

There is no way they are pushing themselves physically and mentally like I do

There is no way they are gaining skills like I am.

Does it make you rock hard and bullet proof? Of course not... but it should give you that mental edge... that confidence that you need.

Usually it means that you do not atttract trouble in the first place!

Anyway... just wanted to tell you that you can always find time to get some training done... just like yesterday!

Martial Arts Is Great

Martial Arts Is Great

How not training poisons everything.
Over the last 20+ years I have seen so many friends and colleagues within the Martial Arts stop training.

In my humble opinion, this has poisoned their lives in so many ways.

They have become: fat, unfit, lost confidence and are in the main, leading fairly boring existences (I do not want to even say lives).

It appears that the passion they once had for training and all the benefits of that have become substituted by a lifestyle that contradicts everything they once held dear.

Maybe you know people who have gone along this same path? Maybe this rings a bell with you?

Any time I have been forced to stop training for any period... i.e injured to the point I could not train. I felt that things were heading in the wrong direction.

Too easy to lay down on the sofa and watch TV, too easy to eat too much, too easy to have a few too many beers.

All these things are more than ok as long as they form a very small part of your life. All these things are ok in moderation.

BUT... They are not ok, when they BECOME your lifestyle.

They are NOT OK, when you are no longer training.

It is paramount that we all continue to train and train properly. It is training that gives us the impetus to lead a great life.

If you are an Instructor, then you know how many peoples lives you can affect in a positive manner. How many people you can and probably have already helped in such a great way.

Your students do not have to be great fighters or anything like that, just the fact that they train and can have a lifestyle that promotes all those great attributes associated with it, is enough.

As Instructors we have a duty to keep training, we have a duty to stay fit and healthy. We have a duty to get our friends and colleagues BACK into training or simply just to start!

So, next time you are thinking of missing a training session to lay on the sofa... get up and go training. It may well be a crappy session, but at least you did it.

As an example... today i am super tired for some reason... I am due to go Boxing in a few minutes.... I looked at the sofa... It was shouting.. Russell... come and lay down and relax...

Boy is that an invite!

Instead... I decided to write to you ... and get off my ass and go Boxing.

Do NOT get posioned my friend... more on this subject another day - Boxing time now!

Time To Stand Up And Be Counted

Yesterday I mentioned the various aspects of cop bashing that we have all been witness to over the last year or so.
I mentioned my thoughts as to one of the main reasons for the problem, the lack of proper training.

I also mentioned that it is time that we, as Martial Artists, did our bit!

We are the ones that can help put things right.

It will take time, it could take years in fact.

But we can't let this carry on.... we have to start making this a better and safer City, State, Country and World to live in.

We MUST ensure that the correct training is done.

Where does this start?

How do we get this off the ground?

It starts with YOU my friend, YOU must be trained correctly in the first instance.

Then you can pass this information on to your family, friends, students and to Law Enforcement and Security in your area.

By ensuring that EVERYONE is properly trained, we can help stop the appalling scenes we seem to be witnessing on a daily basis.

Knowledge of this information is extremely important, but what is PARAMOUNT is the APPLICATION of this knowledge.

We have no idea how many Civilians are KILLED / Badly injured each year but some sources put it at over 170 DEATHS SO FAR in the USA in 2015! This is absolutely insane and is undeniably the best reason to ensure our Cops are trained correctly.

They are NOT Soldiers working on a ''Shoot to Kill Policy'' ... They are there ''To Protect and To Serve''.

In my experience over the last decade or so of heavy involvement with the Police... Most, if not all of the DT Instructors I have taught, have expressed their grave concerns and mis-givings at the training they are now having to undergo.

They did not join up to be another unit of the Armed Forces. They joined up to help their LOCAL COMMUNITY.

Now they are more military than anything else.

I know, these Cops DO NOT WANT to be trained like this.

It is our job to make sure they receive the correct training.

To that end - I am asking you, no DEMANDING THAT YOU help!
